1. Our Mission & Your Privacy
At One Good Book, our mission is spiritual formation, not data extraction. We believe you should be able to explore the spiritual classics without being tracked across the internet.
This document explains what little data we collect, why we need it to deliver your subscription, and how we protect it.

3. The Data We Collect (and What We Don't)
We practice Privacy by Design. We only collect data that is strictly necessary to provide our service to you.
A. What We Do NOT Collect (The "No Pixel" Promise)
Unlike many media platforms, we do not use third-party advertising pixels.
- No Meta (Facebook) Pixel.
- No Google Ads tracking.
- No cross-site retargeting cookies.
- We do not sell your data to data brokers.
B. Analytical Data (Anonymous)
We use Plausible Analytics to understand how our website is used. Plausible is a privacy-first tool that:
- Does not use cookies.
- Does not collect personal data.
- Does not track you across other sites.
- Aggregates data anonymously (e.g., "50 people visited the Home Page today").
C. Account & Subscription Data (Necessary)
When you become a member, we collect:
- Identity Data: Name and email address.
- Account Data: Subscription status, renewal date, and content access logs (to ensure your secure link works).
- Technical Data: IP address (processed briefly for security and fraud prevention).
D. Payment Data
We use Paddle as our Merchant of Record.
- Paddle processes your payment, handles taxes, and issues your receipt.
- We do not store your credit card number. We only receive a transaction ID and confirmation that you paid, so we can unlock your account.
4. How We Use Your Data
We process your data based on the following legal grounds (GDPR Article 6):

5. Our Tech Stack (Subprocessors)
We are transparent about where your data goes. We use a "Sovereign Stack" of trusted providers:
- Ghost (CMS): Hosting user accounts and content.
- Paddle (Merchant of Record): Processing payments and global tax compliance.
- Postmark: Delivering transactional and newsletter emails.
- Plausible: Anonymous site analytics.
- Transistor.fm: Hosting our secure audio feeds.
6. Data Sovereignty & Government Requests
Location of Processing: All user data is controlled and processed in the United States. By using our service, you acknowledge that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
Requests from Foreign Governments: We respect the sovereignty of your data. We do not disclose user data to foreign government authorities unless required to do so by a valid United States court order or a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) enforced through US legal process.
7. Your Rights (GDPR, CCPA, & Global)
No matter where you live, we grant you these rights:
- Right to Access: You can ask us for a copy of all data we hold about you.
- Right to Correction: You can update your email or name in your Account Settings.
- Right to Erasure ("To Be Forgotten"): You can ask us to delete your account and all associated data. (Note: We must retain financial transaction records for tax purposes for 7 years).
- Right to Export: We can provide your data in a portable format.
- Right to Opt-Out: You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at the bottom of any email we send.

8. Data Retention
We keep your data only as long as necessary:
- Active Accounts: For the lifetime of your subscription.
- Deleted Accounts: We delete personal identifiers within 30 days of account closure request.
- Financial Records: Retained for 7 years as required by US tax law (IRS).
9. Governing Law
This policy and any disputes related to it are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict of laws rules.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as our service evolves. If we make material changes (like adding new tracking tools), we will notify you by email or a prominent notice on our site prior to the change becoming effective.
